The story of the 1999 Rams beautifully examined the greatest year in St. Louis football history. Although I lived and cheered through that entire season nearly a decade ago, this DVD reminds me that it was not just a magnificent dream.
The DVD skillfully wove the remarkable sub-plots of Kurt Warner, Dick Vermeil, DeMarco Farr, and indeed of the ailing Rams organization into the fantastic saga of a quest for the Superbowl. If nothing else, these real-life accounts give us all hope in the power of perseverance, even when things seem awful. You don't have to be a Rams fan to realize that this was an extraordinary team that did things that have already become the stuff of legend.
No story of the "greatest show on turf" could be complete without turning a spotlight on the great Marshall Faulk. The special features provide not only motion pictures of some of the most head-shaking moves ever seen on a football field, but also gave us a look inside the heart of Marshall through his own words.
Even the design of the DVD case is impressive. That gaudy diamond-studded ring indicates how special the year and this team were.
When my grandchildren are old, I trust that this DVD will still be telling the story in the excitement of that magical 1999 NFL season!
